Mastering Energy-Management:
Leadership Must-Renew's

If there isn't gas in a car it will be much, much more difficult to take it from point A to point B and depending on the distance, it might even be impossible to accomplish in a lifetime. If we don't take time to renew our mind, body or spirit we run out of gas and experience a dramatic drop in productivity AND quality of life.

Mind
Leaders need to use their brains to successfully accomplish their tasks. Yet most push themselves to continue thinking through stuff for hours on end (back-to-back meetings, phone calls, email, planning sessions) in spite of evidence that the brain can only effectively think in 60-90 minute blocks. Most people are actually being less productive than if they would work for 60-90 minutes and then took a 10-15 minute mental break.

Body
The body needs to be stretched, moved and listened to. Are you someone who tends to ignore muscle stiffness, hunger, or other bodily signals until they become unignorable? As our lifestyles become more and more sedentary, the importance of being intentional about renewing our bodies increases.

Spirit
How are you connecting with an energy bigger than yourself? While there is still much taboo around bringing God and spirituality into the workplace it is the source of creativity, innovation and breakthrough "thinking." What does spiritual renewal look like for you?
