We Aren't Gurus. So Why Do We Have a Model?
Part of what makes the study and learning of leadership skills
so complicated is that we don't have a clear sense of how to
organize what we see and hear. We can mistake personality and
behavioral style for leadership attributes. We can start obsessing
about our perceived leadership weaknesses and miss our leadership
gifts. We can search for the silver bullet instead of the silver
lining.
HarvestingLeadership.com contributes a mental model to help:
- Organize and integrate best leadership and change management
practices
- Assess where a person is along those lines
- Target improvement areas without offering a one-size fits
all approach
- Focus leader's attention in key areas
We know that research will continue on the study of change
management and leadership because they are so critical for organizational
success. We know that most folks are overwhelmed and/or confused
by the existing data that is out there on those very subjects.
Our model helps leaders organize and understand what they hear,
see and read which makes the ongoing learning curve much less
steep.
We have found (as have numerous researchers, including Jim
Collins) that there is no single personality or behavioral style
that creates a more effective leader than another. Having said
that, there are some basics that all effective, successful leaders
are, have, and do. learn more
